Some seriously large lenses from Canon and Nikon... the kind of thing that makes a telescope feel inadequate!
Canon's 1,200 mm prime lens, so big it comes with its own tripod. But then Chris Hurd adds a x2 teleconverter and puts it on an XL1, which has a 7.2 image crop factor, giving a field of view equivalent to around 8,640 mm on a full frame 35 mm camera! Well if you have an $80,000 lens to play with these things have to be done.
canonfd.com has pictures and specs of some outrageous Canon FD series glass
For the 2,000 mm lens (yes, that is a two metre lens) I love the description of it as "a handy type... lens. One of the excellent features is its light weight (11 Kg)." Thought it is a compact baby compared to...
the 5,200 mm mirror lens. This is a mere 500 mm wide and weighs 100 Kg without its stand. Looking at the picture it isn't immediately obvious how large the lens is; until you spot the tiny thing hanging from the right hand side and realise it's the 35 mm camera. Not exactly a compact walking about lens.
etc.
